Union Baptist Church of St. Johnsbury

1. We believe in THE SCRIPTURES of the Old and New Testaments as verbally inspired of God and inerrant in the original writings, and that they are of supreme and final authority in faith and life. II Tim. 3:16,17; II Peter 1:21.

2. We believe in ONE GOD, eternally existing in three "persons": FATHER, SON AND HOLY SPIRIT. Deut. 6:4; Matt. 28:19; John 10;20; Acts 5:1-4.

3. We believe that JESUS CHRIST was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, and is true God and true Man. Matt. 1:18-25; John 1:1-18.

4. We believe that God created the world in six days; that He created Man (human beings) in his own image as male and female; that he ordained marriage as only between one man (born a male) and one woman (born a female); and that all other sexual relationships and unions other than marriage between a man and a woman are contrary to God's Word and will. Gen. 1:1; Ex. 20:11; Gen. 1:26,27; 2:18-25; Mt. 19:4-6; Lev. 18:6-23; 20:10-21; Rom. 1:24-27; I Cor. 6:9-11; 7:1,2; I Ths. 4:3-8; Heb. 13:4. Also for creation: Ps. 33:6-9; Ex. 31:17; Heb. 11:3 for man; Mr. 10:6-9; I Cor. 11:7-12.

5. We believe that Man sinned, and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also spiritual death which leads to eternal separation from God; and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature; in the case of those who reach moral responsibility, become sinners in thought, word, and deed. Gen. 3:6-12; Rom. 5:12; Ps. 51:5; Ezek.18:4; Rom. 3:19; Gal. 3:22; Rom.7:14-25.

6. We further believe that CHRIST DIED FOR OUR SINS, according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice; and that all who truly believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood; and that justification includes the forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life, obtained on no other grounds but faith on the sinner's part. I Cor.15:1-4; Eph.1:7; Rom.3:23-28; Acts 20:20-21.

7. We believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior are BORN AGAIN, and thereby become children of God, indwelt by His Holy Spirit as the seal of their salvation; and that the proper evidence thereof is a Holy life manifesting the fruits of righteousness. John 1:12; Eph. 1:13-14; Eph. 2:8-10.

8. We believe in the RESURRECTION OF THE CRUCIFIED BODY OF OUR LORD, in His ASCENSION into Heaven, and in His present life there for us as HIGH PRIEST AND ADVOCATE (Intercessor). I Cor. 15:12-20; Eph.1:20-23; Heb.7:24-25.

9. We believe in the BODILY RESURRECTION and JUDGMENT of the just and bodily resurrection and judgment of the unjust; in the everlasting blessedness of the saved and the everlasting punishment of the lost. John 5::24-29; I Thes. 4:16-17; Matt. 25-46; II Thes.1:8-9; II Cor. 5:9-10.

10. We believe in the personal, pretribulational, premillennial and imminent bodily RETURN OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST, and in His millennial reign. John 14:13; Rev. 20:4-6, Act 1:11; Matt. 24:42-44.

11. We believe in the CHURCH OF CHRIST as an elect company of believers, baptized by the Holy Spirit into one Body; kept SECURE unto the end, designed to be SEPARATED from the "course of this world". Its mission is to witness concerning it's Head, Jesus Christ, preaching the Gospel among all nations; and its destiny is to be caught up to meet the Lord in the air at His coming. I Peter 2;9-10; Acts 15:14; I Cor.12:12-13; John 10:27- 29; I Peter 1:5; Titus 2:11-14; Matt.28:19-20; I Thes.4:16-18.

12. We believe that every true believer should be BAPTIZED BY IMMERSION as the Scriptures teach. Matt.28:19; Acts 8:36-39.

13. We believe that every believer should regularly celebrate the LORD'S SUPPER, as the Scriptures teach, as a testimony to his fellowship with Christ and with the members of His body. Acts 20:7.

14. We believe in a personal adversary. SATAN, THE DEVIL, who is to be resisted by faith and prayer and in the power of the blood of Christ. I Peter 5:8-9; Rev.12:9-11; Eph.6:10-18.

WE UNDERSTAND that the above statements do not by any means exhaust the content of our faith, which is the whole Word of God, and they are not intended to set a limit beyond which faith cannot go within the Word; but, we do believe that insofar as these articles extend, they are a true presentation of the sound doctrine taught in the Scriptures, and therefore are binding upon us as Christian believers.
